How to Rent Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points
Posted May 2024
So you’ve done your research by stopping at a kiosk to talk to a DVC agent and toured some DVC models to get a feel for the size of the rooms. Are you still unsure about buying into DVC? Do you want to “test out” a stay at a Disney Vacation Club resort before making the big DVC purchase? If you’re still wondering if DVC membership is right for you and your family, you should consider renting DVC points at the DVC Rental Store.
As a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) member, sometimes I have remaining DVC points that I won’t use. I can let the unused points expire at the end of my February Use Year (expiration date is January 31 of the next year) or I can rent out my DVC points and make some cash.
For other DVC members, they may have reserved a DVC resort stay months in advance but due to unpredictable life situations, they are unable to go on vacation. Canceling a vacation is expensive and they may decide to rent out their confirmed DVC reservations. If you are not a DVC member and have some flexibility with the date range of your Disney vacation, you could find very good deals on DVC resort rentals by browsing the DVC Rental Store and renting confirmed DVC reservations. The picture below is from Topolino’s, an upscale Italian restaurant at Disney’s Riviera Resort.
Can non-DVC members rent DVC points?
Absolutely! Renting DVC points is a great way to get Deluxe accommodations on the Disney property with a kitchen and washer/dryer without entering into a long contract. If you rent from DVC Rental Store, you could get significant discounts of 50-65% off the price of a DVC resort that what you would pay if renting directly from Disney. The downside to renting DVC points is that it’s hard to make changes to the reservation as it may not be possible or will require extra fees. Also, DVC resort availability will be low if you wait less than 2 months before your vacation time, especially during the summer months.
Do you pay for parking when renting DVC points?
If you are staying at a DVC resort, you will get free parking. Every car that enters a DVC resort needs to pass through a checkpoint where they will confirm that you have DVC reservations before entering the parking lot. They will assign you a card to put on your dashboard, noting the dates of your DVC resort stay.
Do DVC renters get Early Theme Park Entry?
Yes, DVC guests can enter any of the four theme parks 30 minutes before the official opening time. The (4) theme parks are: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. If you want to beat the long lines, make a list of rides and attractions you want to before going. However, not every ride or attraction is open for Early Entry to the theme parks. Plan ahead and check this list.
Do DVC renters get Extended Magic Hours?
Yes, DVC renters and guests at other deluxe Disney resorts have the exclusive benefit of staying at the theme park after closing hours. Extended Magic Hours are not available to guests staying at Value or Moderate Resorts. If you have a valid theme park ticket for the day, you are allowed to enjoy extended evening hours even if you are a DVC renter. If you were at a different Disney theme park earlier in the day, you must have a Park Hopper option on your ticket to take advantage of Extended Magic Hours.
How do I rent unused Disney Vacation Club points?
I recommend DVC Rental Store to rent DVC points. On the home page of the DVC Rental Store, scroll down and create an account as a “Guest” wanting to rent DVC points and they will walk you through the steps and the documents you will need to sign. The DVC Rental Store will match up renters with Members who have enough points to rent and send an email to the Member.
As a DVC Member, I have 160 points with a February Use Year. In the past, I let my points expire (it was usually less than 50 points) but then I realized I could make some cash as the Annual Dues are now more than $1100. In 2024, I used DVC Rental Store to rent out my unused 45 DVC points. From the example below, I was able to rent out 38 points and will have 7 points remaining. The DVC Rental Store makes the whole process of renting out my DVC points easy and hassle free.
As I am a Member, I do not have experience renting as a Guest at the DVC Rental Store. Instead, I can show you requests that I receive for DVC points rental. Once I receive an email from DVC Rental Store with the subject heading “We have a match for your DVC points to rent!” I immediately claim the open listing for myself and make the DVC reservations in the name of the Guest. If I don’t want to claim the listing, I am not obligated to do so. As you can see from the DVC points rental examples, I will be paid $14 per DVC point and make $532 for these 2 nights at Grand Floridian.
I should note that there are online groups where DVC members and DVC renters can connect and “bypass the middleman” of going through the DVC Rental Store. If I was dealing directly with a DVC renter, I could charge more than $14 per point (maybe $17 per point) but there’s the risk of dealing with less than honest people or dealing with last minute cancellations. I don’t have time for any of that nor do I want to deal with constant emails from prospective DVC renters. That’s why I prefer to use DVC Rental Store to rent out my DVC points.
Now that you know where to rent DVC points, you’ll need some Disney apparel and swimwear in preparation for your upcoming Disney vacation! Visit the online Disney Store for official Disney merchandise, toys, and clothing.
